El Ocojal

Valle de Bravo, State of Mexico

El Ocojal is a residential complex located within the forest of Rancho Avándaro, consisting of six houses of 350 m² each, built on a site of over 7,000 m².

Each home was designed for families with two to four children, promoting a lifestyle centered on togetherness and an appreciation of nature.

The project was conceived with the intention of intervening as little as possible in the natural environment, respecting the existing vegetation and carrying out minimal tree removal only three trees thus achieving a harmonious integration with the landscape. To address water management during the rainy season, specific construction solutions were developed to maintain soil permeability.

Integration occurs not only through the layout of the houses but also through the use of materials such as local wood and clay tiles, creating a color palette that harmonizes with the natural tones of the surroundings. The “A”-shaped morphology conveys a sense of spaciousness, with double-height spaces and large windows that frame the landscape and establish a direct visual connection with nature.

The orientation of each home was carefully studied to enhance thermal comfort, incorporating various passive climate-control strategies, water-saving systems, and treatment plants.
