La Casa de la Abuela
Valle de Bravo, State of Mexico
The residence is designed for a comfortable and accessible lifestyle, allowing the user the grandmother to move through the different spaces with minimal steps and effort. The main entrance, resembling a tunnel surrounded by vegetation and highlighted by a sculpture by Charlotte Yazbek, leads directly to the living area, which connects on its sides to the kitchen to the south and the master suite to the north.
The master bedroom shares a terrace with the family room, which features a mezzanine under a mansard roof housing a bedroom and a marble bathroom. The semi-open terrace with a fireplace can be enjoyed day or night from both living spaces.
Intentionally oriented to capture the sunset from both the bedroom and living area, the house is organized into two parallel double-height volumes with wide spans that maximize lake views and natural light.
Austrian-engineered oak covers the floors, walls, and ceilings, creating a harmonious color palette. Flexible, scenographic lighting adapts to the spaces, balancing functional and decorative elements. The exterior walls, clad in handcrafted white brick, dialogue with the black flat tile roofs.
